Who I am

An introduction

Hi, I am Mel Green. I'm a Lecturer in Education Studies and Doctoral Researcher at The Open University currently researching the personal and professional identities of Open University Associate Lecturers and  exploring how the intersections of these identities affect their pedagogical choices online.

I am a former primary school teacher and worked with children and young people from 1999 to 2015. I have two children, one of whom is autistic, and the experience of being a parent of a child with a disability has led me to volunteer as a Trustee member of a specialist school for autistic children aged 3-19.

This site has been created to document my experiences of being both a lecturer and researcher. I am both a distance learning educator and a distance learning student. I believe that distance learning does not have to be isolating. For me, education is freedom. When we have the opportunity to learn and access information, we become free.

This is a place where I share reflections on my research and practice. I would love to know your thoughts on my thoughts and connect with you in the future.
